Icon Conservation Register Redevelopment Project

Icon, the Institute of Conservation, is a charity working to raise awareness of the cultural, social and economic value of caring for heritage. As the professional body for conservators, we champion high standards of conservation. Representing about 2,500 individuals and organisations, our membership incorporates not only professional conservators and conservation scientists, but many others who share a commitment to improving understanding of and access to our cultural heritage. Most of our current members are UK-based, although 17.5% are based abroad.

The Conservation Register Redevelopment Project has two key aims.  The first aim is to provide a publicly accessible and fully searchable digital directory of Icon Accredited Conservator-Restorers (ACRs). The second aim is to provide an easy to use resource for clients and commissioners who are seeking to appoint a conservator to care for their object or collection. To achieve this the Conservation Register must differentiate between ACRs who wish to offer their services to a wide audience and those who cannot. The new Conservation Register should therefore allow ACRs to apply for an Enhanced Listing for an additional fee. ACRs who opt for the Enhanced Listing will be able to include contract details, project snapshots and further information about their skills and practice in their list entry.

Questions and Answers

Where will tender meetings be held?

The meetings will be staged in London, as this is where Icon staff are based.  We are not able to cover travel expenses, but we can certainly conduct interviews by video conferencing.

How many tender meetings will be involved?

There is to be only one meeting - the presentation of the proposal on 4th November.

Have you got any more budget for this initial build?

We encourage service providers to be honest in their views.  While we certainly aim to be flexibile, we are looking to achieve a final result that is as close as possible to our budget and vision.

Is there any flexibility in your timelines?

We will look to engage our members in the testing phase, with a view to launching the final version by the end of the financial year.

Are you open to rolling this project into the necessary upcoming main site build?

We are not able to consider combining the Conservation Register project with the rebuild of the main website. The redevelopment of the main website will be a future project.

Would you be open to building this directory first then building it out to the main site?

Yes.
