About the Role
St George’s Chapel was founded in 1348. Its archives, which date from the 12th century, relate not only to the history of the Chapel and associated buildings in the Lower Ward of Windsor Castle, but also to the properties it once possessed in 30 counties in England and Wales. Illuminated manuscripts include the early registers of the Order of the Garter. The Chapter Library contains almost 6,000 rare books, dating mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Following a detailed conservation audit in summer 2019, the Dean and Canons of Windsor invite applications from those with a recognised professional qualification in paper conservation for a 12 month post of Archives Project Conservator.
The successful applicant will be required to carry out the full range of professional duties to improve the overall condition of the Dean and Canons’ archival collection and to assist the Archivist and Chapter Librarian in planning future management of the collection. Experience of working with medieval documents together with excellent interpersonal and computer skills will be an advantage for this post.
This is a post for 12 months only, either full or part time (minimum 3 days a week).
For an informal discussion of the post, please contact Anne Courtney, Archivist and Chapter Librarian on [email protected] or 01753 848724.
