We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an imaginative and dynamic individual as part of our expansion of the Geoarchaeology and Conservation departments. We are building on the vision that began with the pioneering excavation of waterlogged deposits at Coppergate, York and the establishment of a world-leading conservation lab.  To help in our mission, we require someone with the character and skills to deliver commercial contracts cost-effectively and to the satisfaction of clients. Just as importantly we are looking for someone with the ambition, enthusiasm and drive, to use this platform of discovery to help build the connections and to secure positive social impacts using science and heritage. This extends to exciting opportunities to contribute to new initiatives in public engagement, education, research and publication, via conventional and novel approaches.

This role would be based across our York and Nottingham offices although we work across the country to deliver specialist geoarchaeological and conservation services. We are committed to increased flexibility, both in cross-office working and a hybrid home/office approach.

If you feel you have demonstrable relevant experience and skills, or indeed untapped potential and are ready for a change, get in touch and explore the possibilities.

You:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Project Manager to join our team, which sits within the wider framework of the York Archaeology, Archaeology & Heritage team. You will have the opportunity to work alongside highly skilled archaeology and heritage professionals, who specialise in a wide range of archaeological sub-disciplines including archaeological conservation, wetland archaeology, geomatics and Lidar, archaeobotany, aerial photography and spatial analysis.

Under the guidance of our Heads of Conservation and Geoarchaeology, you will be expected to provide expert advice to both external clients and internally to managers, senior management team and project teams, from early project stage enquiry through to delivery. The role requires the co-ordination of teams to carry out geoarchaeological fieldwork and lab-based conservation. In addition, the role will also co-ordinate external specialists and manage the delivery of projects across both disciplines.  As such we require a candidate with experience of producing these reports, and demonstrable writing skills to a professional standard. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a background in project management and post-excavation delivery. Key to the role will be supported liaison with clients, local authority planning personnel, museum staff, statutory bodies and other stakeholders, so excellent interpersonal skills are of paramount importance.

What we offer:

An opportunity to help deliver the vision and become part of a ground-breaking adventure to push the boundaries of what geoarchaeology and science can offer in the UK and beyond.

York Archaeology also provides its employees with a varied range of benefits and rewards:
