Key Responsibilities:

  • You’ll carry out the assessment, conservation and mounting of works required for exhibitions and loans as well as undertaking general collection care. You’ll provide advice about and assist with storage, transportation and installation.
  • With your own diverse portfolio of conservation projects, you’ll research and explore new methods and ensure your work is accurately recorded.
  • With line management responsibility, you’ll oversee and develop two permanent Paper Conservators and on occasion manage the programme of work for Paper Conservation student placements, sharing your knowledge with the next generation.
  • You’ll promote the role of the Paper Conservation section both within and beyond Royal Collection Trust, including providing informative and engaging material for our website, social media channels and other relevant platforms.

Essential Criteria:

  • With a recognised Paper Conservation qualification and substantial practical experience, you’ll have a well-developed understanding of conservation practice and theory, art history, and health and safety practice.
  • As an expert in your field with a good professional network, you enjoy researching and developing new solutions to conservation problems, and you’re keen to share your expertise with others.
  • With supervisory or management experience, you’re able to support, develop and motivate the work of two paper conservators.
  • With an organised mindset, you can plan and prioritise your own work to deliver shared projects on time and to exceptional standards.
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently, you can collaborate with a range of stakeholders including curators, conservators and exhibition teams.
  • Digitally literate, you’re able to use collection management databases, spreadsheets and image processing software to support your work.
