Heritage Science Group: Oddy Testing with David Thickett

Please join us at The National Archives for a one-day in person course on Oddy Testing!

The Icon Heritage Science Group presents a 1-day workshop on Oddy Testing held in person at The National Archives, Kew, Richmond, TW9 4DU on Monday 21st of November 2022 10.00-15.30

This workshop is designed to introduction or refresher to the theory and practice of Oddy testing of materials for use in display and storage of cultural heritage collections. It will include presentation and discussion of the theory and method of Oddy Testing as currently practiced as well as practical sessions in labs at The National Archives, covering setup of samples and equipment.

David Thickett, Senior Conservation Scientist with English Heritage will lead the sessions, assisted by colleagues and members of the HSG Committee

All equipment will be provided. The workshop is not catered, but participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and drinks, or to purchase meals from the National Archives Cafe on site. This Event will be held in-person and joining instructions and further information will be provided on registration.

David Thickett. Following a degree in natural sciences and two years of experience in industrial ceramics research, David Thickett joined the British Museum in 1990 with a specialism in preventive conservation and inorganic materials conservation research. Moving to English Heritage in 2003 as Senior Conservation Scientist, David focuses mainly on preventive conservation research, gaining his PhD in archeological conservation and chemistry in 2012. His recent projects have focused on historic house environments, acoustic emission, collections demography and epidemiology, non-destructive testing, microclimate frames and optical coherence tomography.
