Icon ACR Conference 2020: Session 3 : Communicating conservation
Icon Professional Development
To: Thursday 09.07.20
The fourth annual Icon ACR Conference is taking place online in 2020 and will explore the theme of 'communication, language and impact'. Only open to Icon Accredited Members, the conference has been designed to support and inspire ACRs in their ongoing professional development.
Session 3 : Communicating conservation
This session will start with a reflection on Historic Royal Palaces’ 15-year experience in making communication a central strategic pillar in the delivery of conservation across the vast collection holdings of six royal palace sites.
It will focus on the communications campaigns that we deploy with the aim of embedding conservation practices within revenue generating events and activities. Through public and stakeholder engagement, our work ultimately promotes the sustainable guardianship of the heritage sites within our care. Following this two case studies on recent conservator communications will be presented. One case study will explore ‘communicating conservation to camera: from both sides of the camera’, covering the conservator’s experience in being interviewed, whilst also safeguarding filming within our historic interiors. The second case study will speak about working with performance artists, for whom conservation considerations may be entirely new, to influence mitigated conservation risks alongside an uncompromised artistic design.
This is the first of four events in the series. See the Icon ACR Conference 2020 webpage for full details.
