Icon Ceramics and Glass Group Conference 2017
To: Friday 08.09.17
Magdalene College, Oxford OX1 4AU
The CGG has organised a dynamic programme of speakers and visits for our upcoming conference. Over two days delegates will have a chance to visit the Conservation Laboratory or have a guided tour of Conservation Galleries at the Ashmolean Museum and hear the presentations from an international pool of speakers covering a range of conservation topics concerning ceramics, glass and enamels and 3D printing. On Thursday evening the conference dinner will be held at the Golden Cross Pizza Express on Cornmarket housed in a historic market building famous for its preserved medieval wall painting.
On the second day presentations from an international pool of speakers will be held at Magdalen College; one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford founded in 1458. Lunch in the main college dining hall is included in the delegate package. Speakers and posters will cover a range of conservation topics concerning ceramics, glass and enamels including 3D printing in clay. Friday’s day of talks will be drawn to a close with an outdoor drinks reception in the exquisite college Cloisters. The prospective conference programme can be found here.
The CGG conference has been planned to coincide with Oxford Open Doors held on the weekend of September 9th and 10th. Delegates are encouraged to visit some of these historic venues across the university and city, many of which only open to the public once a year. University college chapels are particularly strong in stained glass and highly recommended.
£60 students, £80 Icon members, £120 non members
Dinner (optional) £20
A limited number of single rooms within the college walls have been reserved for the CGG and are available for the nights of the 7th and 8th. Rooms booked through the CGG include breakfast; they are £65 per night for a standard room (shared WC) or £85 per night for an en-suite. Rooms can be booked on Eventbrite until 1st August 2017 but please note both rooms and conference places are limited so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
Alternative accommodation can booked in various Oxford colleges on the Speedybooker website. Many colleges advertise rooms no more than three months in advance so more options may be available from the mid July. Rooms should also be available in Magdalen College student blocks that are outside the college walls, they are often cheaper than those booked through Eventbrite but do not include breakfast. If booking a Magdalen College room through Speedybooker use the code Conf2017.
For further information please visit the Ceramic and Glass Group pages where details will continue to be updated with the full programme, abstracts and speaker biographies.
