Icon Skills: Health and Safety for Conservators

Two day online workshop running on 13 and 14 January 2026

Icon’s ‘Health and Safety for Conservators’ provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of essential health and safety practices for conservators working both in studios and on-site.

This interactive workshop is delivered by Martin Adlem, an experienced health and safety consultant who has been running this specialised programme for conservators for over a decade. The course is spread across four sessions over two days, taking place on 13 and 14 January 2026.

Day 1 | 13 January 2026

Session 1: Health & Safety Responsibilities
Time: 10:30 – 12:30

An introduction to the importance of health and safety, outlining key legal responsibilities under both criminal and civil law.

Session 2: Risk Assessment
Time: 2:00 – 16:00

A practical session on conducting effective risk assessments, covering fundamental principles and providing useful templates for workplace implementation.

 

Day 2 | 14 January 2026

Session 3: Chemical Safety
Time: 10:30 – 12:30

An in-depth exploration of how chemicals can pose risks in the workplace, with a focus on protecting individuals and the wider environment.

Session 4: Manual Handling, Working at Height & Fire Safety
Time: 2:00 – 16:00

A discussion of three common workplace hazards—manual handling, working at height, and fire safety—along with effective strategies for managing and mitigating risks.
