NHIG Ironwork Conservation Award 2020
To: Sunday 14.06.20
The NHIG Ironwork Conservation Award, which will be presented for the first time at the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths (WCB) Awards Lunch in October 2020, seeks to recognise and celebrate excellence in ironwork conservation as an inspiration for all.
Following the success of the Forging Ahead conference at the V&A in November 2019, the National Heritage Ironwork Group (NHIG) is excited to announce a new award recognising exemplary conservation within the ironwork sector.
The inspiration of the conference sparked a new interest in heritage and conservation work, particularly among younger blacksmiths, and the NHIG is keen to harness this enthusiasm by creating more opportunities to recognise and celebrate excellence within the heritage ironwork field.
Work on any scale, in a public or private setting, is eligible. The judging panel will be interested in:
• The appropriateness of materials and techniques used
• The extent to which the loss of original fabric was minimised
• The quality of the craftsmanship
The 2020 Application Round will open on 14th February 2020 and close midnight on 14th June 2020.
