Rescheduled talk giving an overview of the recent research into Pieter de Hooch's painting techniques.
The intimate depictions of domestic life by Dutch artist Pieter de Hooch (1629 – in or after 1679), contemporary of Vermeer, are well known and widely admired. However, far less is known about his painting technique.
In the run-up to the monographic exhibition Pieter de Hooch in Delft – From the Shadow of Vermeer, held at Museum Prinsenhof Delft (October 2019 – February 2020), the Rijksmuseum contributed to the exhibition and the accompanying catalogue with technical research regarding how and with which materials De Hooch created his works. This talk gives an overview of the research results.
This talk was rescheduled from 9 November 2022.
