Special Museum Visits - to coincide with the 13th International Symposium on Wood and Furniture in Amsterdam

Those attending the 13th International Symposium on Wood and Furniture in Amsterdam are invited to partake in an additional learning experience designed to compliment the Symposium, the subject of which is “Material Imitation and Imitation Materials in Furniture and Conservation” (http://www.ebenist.org/en/).
On the day before the symposium, Thursday 17th, the Furniture and Wood Group has arranged a day of related visits - to the Decorative Arts Conservation Studios of the Rijks Museum, and to the conservation stores of the Amsterdam Historisch Museum.
Thursday 17th November
10 – 11am: Visit the Decorative Arts Conservation Studios of the Rijks Museum. Select staff at the Conservation Studio will review the highlights of current projects and recent research. Participants will be able to explore the facilities and the tools that the studio employees have at their disposal.
The studio visit will be followed by an optional visit to the Rijks Museum. The Rijks is one of the most respected museums in the world. They house over 8,000 artistic and historical objects which tell the story of 800 years of Dutch history, from the year 1200 right up to the present.
1pm: Lunch – not provided.
2pm: Visit the conservation stores of the Amsterdam Historisch Museum. The Amsterdam Museum tells the story of Amsterdam. Participants will visit the warehouse where they will see objects in Amsterdam’s history that the general public does not typically have access to. They will be given a tour of the warehouse as well as time to spend exploring the extensive and varied collection.
Friday 18th & Saturday 19th November:
Icon Furniture and Wood group committee members will then be attending the 13th International Symposium on Wood and Furniture Conservation, taking place at The Rode Hoed, Amsterdam. See separate program on their website.
The cost of Thursday’s events is £25, plus the cost of transportation between visit locations.
