The ICON Ethnography group are pleased to invite ICON members to celebrate the Horniman Museum and Gardens World Gallery’s first year.
Over 3000 objects were assessed, treated and mounted for display during a 5 year project to create a new permanent Anthropology gallery. Join Horniman conservators, Julia Gresson and Charlotte Ridley for gallery tours that will discuss the treatment, mounting and logistics of creating a vibrant and wide ranging display. Display case design, community consultation and working with external contractors are all aspects that will be covered.
This tour will include insights into the conservation treatment of cultural material from around the globe. Objects displayed include Inuit parkas, Fijian barkcloth, Sardinian Mamuthones, Xhosa beadwork and an English dolls’ house.
Following the gallery tours there’ll be a chance to socialise and network with fellow members. Drink and snacks will also be provided.
