Icon Internship in Paper Conservation

This conservation internship is part of a programme of Alexander Graham Traineeships at the National Library of Scotland and is being managed in partnership with the Institute of Conservation. It is intended that the internship will focus upon the conservation of some particularly unstable and fragile types of paper objects, such as onion-skin paper, tracing paper and paper exhibiting signs of iron gall ink corrosion. These fragile formats are preservation priorities for the Library as they are dispersed across a number of collections and are at risk of deterioration. A strategy is needed to identify these items through surveys, to decide how to conserve them, to plan their digitisation where appropriate, and to take preventive measures to ensure their long-term preservation.

Closing date: 9am on 4th March 2020
Interviews are expected to be held on 16th March 2020 at the National Library of Scotland, Edinburgh
