What data tells us about the impact of Covid 19 on the art market

On 11th June the Icon Paintings Group held an online talk given by Christine Bourron of Pi-ex on what data tells us about the impact of Covid 19 on the art market.

Christine Bourron is the Founder and Chief Executive of the London based company Pi-eX. Pi-eX’s mission is to empower art market stakeholders to make informed decisions in the art market by tracking auction sales on a daily basis and providing innovative analytical and financial tools to help one understand trends in the fine art market better.

Over the past 20 years, Christine has made a career of starting innovative businesses in changing markets. In 1998 she started PaintingsDIRECT.com based in New York, this was the first online art gallery offering original artworks by more than 500 contemporary artists. In 2006 she started the first landscape design bureau in Moscow, providing High Net Worth Individuals with turnkey solutions for the creation of large parks.

Before founding her first business, Christine worked for CDI, a strategy consulting firm in Boston, Apple Computers in Kiev, in the Ukraine and Procter & Gamble in Paris. She attained her BA specializing in Finance from ESCP Europe, Paris in 1990 and has a dual MBA/MA degree from the Wharton School and The Lauder Institute, School of Arts and Sciences, at the University of Pennsylvania.

She is a Board Member of PAIAM, the Professional Advisors to the International Art Market Association and a member of CISI, The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

We are also joined by Matteo Pace a research analyst at Pi-eX who ensures that dispersed information in the auction market is transformed into valuable insights applying Pi-eX methodology.

Matteo joined Pi-eX after working in both the art and financial worlds; Christie’s London and Mediolanum Private Bank in Milan. He holds a MSc in Art Law and Business and a BSc in Economics and Management and speaks four languages fluently. He has professional affiliations in the art world in Geneva and Luxembourg and is co-founding an artistic foundation in Milan.
