About us
Launched in September 2023, the first of its kind in the UK, the two-year MSc Conservation of Contemporary Art & Media is an exciting development for the Department at UCL East, a new campus in east London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The programme extends the Department’s current teaching and research strengths while providing for the rapidly developing training needs of the next generation of conservators, and conservation professionals looking to develop a specialism in the field of contemporary art. The focus of the programme is on contemporary sculpture, installation and time-based media works of art.
The MSc is based in two spaces the Conservation Laboratory and the Media Conservation Studio at UCL East. This post is based in the purpose-built Conservation Laboratory and there is also an equivalent manager for the Media Conservation Studio. The MSc Conservation of Contemporary Art & Media welcomes 12 students per year for a two-year MSc. It forms part of the School for the Creative and Cultural Industries group of programmes, which is designed to enable collaborative approaches and experimental practice across Faculties, as well as with neighbouring institutions at the Olympic Park, including the Victoria & Albert Museum.
The Role
We are seeking to appoint a part-time Conservation Scientist/ Laboratory Manager to oversee the Conservation Laboratory and support the delivery of the MSc in the Conservation of Contemporary Art and Media and staff and students (both MSc and Doctoral Students) in their conservation teaching and projects, including some continuing professional development for those in the field.
The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of a range of analytical techniques relevant to the conservation of art. You will be excited by current developments in the field of conservation science, enjoy working in a teaching, learning and research environment, and have experience in the procurement, installation, management, operation and maintenance, of analytical and specialist equipment.
The postholder is key to supporting and enhancing learning, teaching and research associated with the MSc in the Conservation of Contemporary Art and Media and will work closely with members of the programme’s teaching team. This is a part-time post at 0.5FTE, equivalent to 18.25 hours per week based at UCL East, Stratford, London.
