Introducing Icon's New Chair
Icon has appointed a new Chair to lead the Board of Trustees after an open application and interview process.
From 6th April, Emma Chaplin, a freelance consultant working in the museum and heritage sector, will take on the role.
Emma said:
I am honoured and delighted to take on the role of Chair of Icon.
I am hugely appreciative of the great work that it does to champion the care of cultural heritage, professional standards and the work of its members.
I am looking forward to working with the Board, staff team and Icon members to deliver on its strategic goals.
Emma will bring a great deal of knowledge and experience from her lengthy career in the sector, including high-profile previous roles such as Director of AIM – the Association of Independent Museums.
‘Emma’s professional experience is an excellent fit for Icon,’ said Icon interim Chair Sophie Rowe ACR. ‘She really understands how to balance the needs of Icon as a professional body with its charitable objectives.’
Emma has built a strong track record as a practical supporter and advocate for conservation through her work at AIM. Her advocacy for financial support for the sector during the COVID pandemic was instrumental in the Government setting up the Cultural Recovery Fund, which has benefitted Icon among many others.
‘Most importantly,’ said Sophie, ‘she is ambitious on Icon's behalf and enthusiastic about becoming our new Chair!’
Members will have the chance to meet Emma at Icon’s first-ever Members Meeting in London on Thursday, 30th March.
Before this, Emma will also be delivering a CPD session for Icon members on Grant Writing on 8th March.
