Do you have practical experience of conservation and collections care practices, including experience of condition reporting and remedial conservation treatment on 3D objects? Would you like to be responsible for leading a team delivering conservation and collections moves as part of changes to the museum’s permanent galleries?
The Conservation & Collections Care team (C&CC) support all conservation activity across the collection and are responsible for establishing and maintaining conservation and collection care standards.
The Science Museum in London are now recruiting for a Senior Conservator to join on a fixed-term contract lasting 3 years. This is a full-time role, working 35 hours per week and is based at the Science Museum in London, with hybrid working also available.
About the Role
As Senior Conservator (Masterplan Projects) you will be responsible for managing project teams assembled to deliver collections moves as part of changes to the museum’s permanent galleries. You will ensure work is completed on time and objects are cared for to professional standards.
You will work across a range of capital projects, including the re-location and refresh of the museum’s Space Technology displays. Subsequent projects will include the installation of a new gallery dedicated to contemporary science, as well as the decant and refresh of other permanent galleries at Science Museum.
You will be involved in condition reporting and stabilisation of objects for transport & storage as well as developing workflows to ensure efficient object processing. You will lead on object hazard management, including writing workflows, leading training, and planning and coordinating hazard surveys and remediation.
About You
Joining us you will have practical experience and knowledge of conservation and collections care practices, in addition to practical experience of condition reporting 3D objects and of undertaking 3D object remedial conservation treatment.
Crucially, you will have effective communication skills with an ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and external consultants or contractors. You will be able to work well in a team and have the ability to lead on projects, utilising your high level project management and planning skills to ensure work is completed on time and to a high standard.
