Time travel and x-ray vision were voted as a conservator’s ‘superpower’ in Icon’s Values of Conservation Twitter campaign last month.
In September, Icon ran a two-day social media campaign consisting of Twitter polls encouraging conservators to answer light-hearted questions about their profession from superpowers to theme songs. The campaign also featured more considered questions around misconceptions about conservation and the use of language.
One of our questions asked Twitter to vote for one of four different options to describe a conservator's superpower: camouflage, x-ray vision, time travel or clairvoyance. Time travel and x-ray vision received 32.8 percent of the votes, with camouflage coming up last with 10.9 percent.
"I decided on clairvoyance because it would be nice to visually see exactly how something was made, how and when it’s been damaged and the full conservation history of it" one voter described.
We will be publishing more interesting snippets from the campaign over the coming months. See the full two-day conversation here. Many thanks for everyone who took part!
The campaign was a part of Icon’s Values of Conservation research and engagement project aiming to identify and articulate the values and public benefit of conservation. A final report on the project will be published by the end of the year.
